After a wonderful send-off in Chicago from United, we made it to Managua safely.

We made it to Granada this morning after a night in Managua.  We were so excited to finally be here after months of preparation. Everyone is happy and healthy! We have had a full day focused around the theme of the history of Nicaragua and learning how history shapes and molds our communities. We were so honored to hear from some community leaders who were so proud of their city and culture and who are working diligently towards progress. Our students were so engaged and inquisitive as we rode horse-drawn carriages to 5 historic sites with incredible architecture and narratives. We enjoyed several traditional foods, and the students are loving their rice and beans, gallo pinto!

As we shared out this evening about first impressions and how we can keep negative history from repeating itself, it was obvious everyone was seriously reflecting, learning, and applying this experience already! Students shared how just being engaged in dialogue with others can help shape our own perspectives and bring positive growth. Happy Father’s day to any dads back home, and thank you families for sharing your wonderful children with the world as the world teaches them!!
