We kicked off today with a 6:30am wake up call and gallo pinto for breakfast. The GG Leaders, Matt and Noel, facilitated the history academic seminars in the morning. Roxana and Silvan lead two separate groups on a walking tour of Matagalpa pointing out significant historical landmarks.

After the city tour we had lunch, which proceeded with a presentation from Doña Sonia Hernández, who was formerly a guerilla fighter who fought alongside the Sandinistas against the Somoza regime. She gave insight on the experience of armed struggle and also what it was like as a woman fighting on the front lines.

After hearing and being inspired by Doña Sonia, the delegation drove up to El Calvario Hill, which had a spectacular view of Matagalpa.

At the tail end of the day, Silvan passed the torch of the El Lider Del Dia to Matthew, who will be leading the group tomorrow for Culture Day.

PS. Thank you for the comments, I (Matthew), have been trying to read them to the students when I have the chance. Keep commenting!
