Hey Global Glimpse Community! My name is Christiana Herrera, and today was my day to be Lider del Dia. The question of the day was, “When I get home, what will I do to make sure I am making the most of my time?” We all discussed that each of us would take away something positive from this trip. Some of us said we would tell our family and friends about how high the poverty levels in Nicaragua are, and some of us would talk about how different their lives are compared to ours. Some also said they would try to volunteer more, be more thankful, and be more considerate, while keeping in mind the privileges and advantages they have.
Today was our first free day in which we got to go out and explore on our own. I’m really proud of how we all followed the rules today, especially making it a point to be on time, be aware of our surroundings, and be positive when there presented with difficult situations. This made being Lider del Dia a really great experience because we were all on the same page and having fun.
One thing I learned while being Lider del Dia today is that I can take charge without being condescending. I think this is an important quality for leaders to embody. All in all, everyone had a great day and bonded with each other. We have gone through great lengths to support and help each other throughout the day, and we continue to do so throughout the trip. Every one is having a great time in Nicaragua, and we love and miss you all. 🙂
It is so inspirational how you all shine even on your free days! You are making friendships that will last a lifetime and creating bonds that will not be broken. Not just with the people of Nicaragua but with one another. This is an experience you will always share…cherish it! Logan it was so incredibly nice to hear from you today! We miss you and love you so much! Can’t wait to hear about your community action project and how you will leave a lasting impact on the people you have come to know. “For it is in giving that we receive.” St. Frances

Even on a free day, you all seem to learn some of life’s most valuable lessons. It is very true that leaders need to learn to be humble and take charge without being condescending. Having come to the US from an underdeveloped country, I have always come to appreciate what we have here and I can relate to the experience that you are going through now, it will shape each of you to become a leader in whatever you choose to do in the future.
Logan, I am very happy that you are making new friends and you have an opportunity to interact and go through learning valuable lessons in life and leadership. Make the most of your time there. We all miss you.
Hello Emily Its great that you are able to see another way of life. keep safe and tell me all about your experience when you get home miss you love you take care. Dad
Hello Emily its great that you and your group will spread the word about poverty conditions in Nicaragua. Keep learning have a great trip love and miss you your dad
Tita – very nice write up! I like that you recognized that a good leader is aware of how you lead by example, “not to be condescending”…I’m much older than you and learned this in my twenties, not my teens. Way to perpetuate!
It’s also a pleasure to hear that you are all watching out and being supportive of one another. As well the content of your conversations.
Note-yesterday; Dad broke his right pinky & fractured his wedding finger, playing goalie. The cousins say he should stop playing. Dad is well! We are going to celebrate Dia de Los Padres (did I say that correctly?), at Pop’s in a little while.
Love and miss you Daughter! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures…xoxo
