Today was a full day of adventure!

The morning started with a 7 am wake-up call where all the students were able to quickly assemble and head out for breakfast. The Glimpsers enjoyed a traditional breakfast including gallopinto (Nicaraguan-rice-and-beans). The students particularly enjoyed the delicious natural juices.

From there, the students were given a seminar about how to be a savvy traveler and effectively navigate the city. The students have learned to watch their step, and will yell “HOYO” (the Spanish word for hole) in warning.

We then toured Leon, seeing churches, parks, and murals while soaking in the history of how the city came to be. The students enjoyed the sights and even got to feed the local pigeons

We were then treated to a guest speaker, Don Pedro Medrano who taught us about indigenous culture, folklore, and the spiritual world. He had much to share and had a very interesting storytelling style. The students were then given a tour of a local museum where Don Pedro was able to give us the history of many of the artifacts on display.

After dinner we had our nightly meeting where we were able to reflect on the day and help students to make connections to their lives in the US. The GGLs and the PCs were delighted to share conversations and reflections with the students about their first impressions of the trip.

I have been so impressed with the students’ willingness to step out of their comfort zones and have truly taken full advantage of all of all the trip has to offer. The Glimpsers are making friends and staying positive at every turn!

Tomorrow we head to the beach for our next adventure!
