First stop on our city tour – Convento San Francisco!

This lead us to lunch! Don Carlos served us lunch at his delicious restaurant. We returned to the hostel for some rest and relaxation. In the early afternoon we ventured back out to meet Dona Azahalea, a leader in the feminist, human rights and environmental movements in Nicaragua and all of Central America. What a source of inspiration! She talked to us about her involvement in the revolution in Nicaragua and how we can make changes for causes that we are passionate about in our own local contexts. Our Glimpses made us proud with all of their thoughtful and insightful questions.

We followed our chat with dinner followed by……A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY! Don Carlos and his wife secretly planned a party for Lily’s 17th birthday complete with decorations, cake, music and party hats 🙂 We all danced and ate cake!!! I would like to think that Lily will remember this birthday for a long time!

Our food provider went all-out to give Lily a birthday to remember.

Our night ended with a self-reflection in our journals, a seminar on being Leader of the Day and, of course, our nightly meeting! I will be signing off from here and handing the blog over to our first two student leaders of the day, Mar and Annie. They will be leading us tomorrow through Culture Day and writing the blog entry tomorrow night! We miss you all!!
