Hey all!

Today was a calm day. We started the day off well, with a breakfast consisting of a ham omelet, toast with jam, and tortillas con queso. After breakfast, we decided to play a game of Find the Leader for our mental warm-up, in which one person created a pattern for the group to follow, and another person would have to guess who is leading the group. After our morning activity, we listened to a presentation regarding the details of our Community Action Project (painting the school of Eslabon) from our project coordinators, in which we learned that our project would not only help these children and their community, but also the environment. We put together a proposal for our project, which allowed us to write our plans and equipment needed. After that, we watched a documentary explaining the impacts of tourism on Costa Rica’s protected territory.

Afterwards, we had our lunch, which was arroz cantones with pasta salad. We had some downtime, and then we listened to our guest speaker– Mr. Andres “Fofo” Zúñiga– teach us about environmental justice. We then did an activity where we had a heated debate on the balance that’s needed between tourism and the local villages and the environment. It was really fun! After that, we had some downtime, where I watched a few students play a game of water volleyball. It was super entertaining. Then we had dinner which was beef and potato soup with rice. We ended our day with the nightly meeting and treated ourselves to an awesome campfire and some s’mores.

Miss you guys! 6 more days until we’re home!

With love, Aerin <<33
