Day 9 – Living and Working Like A Local Day
Today was different than any other day. Glimpsers woke up at 5 am in the morning to head to the town of Nabuso. Once we got to Nabuso, we had breakfast with a very inspirational and motivational woman named Charrito. She opened her home to us and proudly served us a wonderful breakfast of humitas, bunuelo, and apples and kiwis. These fruits were freshly grown in her garden. After our wonderful breakfast, we separated into different groups to help in different community activities. These activities consisted of manual hard labor such as hoeing dirt and cutting tree trunks out of the ground. At the end of it all we felt a sense of appreciation for local farmers and what we take for granted. When it was time to leave, many of the community members were saddened to see us go. As Lider del Dia, I am proud of all of my peers for committing to doing the work and getting the full experience of a local in Ecuador. Once we got back to the hostel we had a bit of free time where we played soccer and volleyball. A few students went to get the materials for the CAP project, and when they arrived back at the hostel we prepared for English #4 tutoring. At 6:30 we ate dinner and had our usual nightly meeting to wrap up the day.
Unfortunately, Ifetayo could not take part in the activity today due to a stomach bug, but she tried her best to encourage the other students and continue her leadership role once the students returned back to the hostel.
Essence, keep up the good work. I am so happy you are able to have such an experience as this! Enjoy your time there! Love you and miss you!
Oh no Ife I hope you feel better. Call us as soon as you can!
It looks like you are all working hard and playing hard, too. What interesting and wonderful experiences you are having.
