Today was my third day in the Dominican Republic, and I still can’t believe I am actually here. My Global Glimpse peers and I have experienced so much within such a small amount of time. As of today, we had an academic seminar where we took time getting informed about English tutoring for Dominican students, which we will be doing tomorrow. I’ve been given the honor of tutoring the beginner’s class for adults. We prepared our agenda for the English students with some icebreakers and activities which I am sure I am going to enjoy doing! The highlight of our day was visiting Adamalys, who is a Dominican clinical psychologist and educator of adult literacy students. Our whole group of Glimpsers visited the lovely home of Adamalys and observed how she taught her students. We listened to her students and recognized their strong enthusiasm for developing literacy. I think we all felt how heartwarming it was to hear the people’s desire for learning.
I really enjoyed being the first leader of the day on this trip. It was the first day I experienced the power of leadership for an entire day. I thank all my peers and Global Glimpse leaders for the support they’ve given me throughout the experience.
It’s only day 3? Why do I feel like you guys have been gone for 2 weeks already? You guys are going to have so much fun with your English tutoring, it was one of my favorite parts about my trip last year, being able to teach the people in the community and watching them with excitement as they learn English, it’s one of the best ways to connect with them! Alyssa I’m going to tell you this everyday until your group is annoyed with me commenting lol, but I miss you and love you so much! Remember to read your letters I wrote for you! Love you!
