We hand an amazing day! Our educational day began extremely early. The glimspers woke up at 5:30am and although it was at an ealry hour, everyone showed positive attitude. The students were excited because it was their first time riding a local city bus. The ride was a different and fun experience! The morning bus ride was so full, many of us had to stand up during the ride. Our destination was at a local high school where students got to shadow other Nicaraguan high school students. We sat with them in their classroom and had some amazing conversations with them. I was very glad to see how some Glimpsers who don’t have much Spanish background challenged themselves to speak to the Nicaraguan students. Yet, other Glimpsers who are more fluent with the Spanish language also did an amazing job helping with communication! Our conversations with the Nicaraguan students were mostly about their everyday life styles. During the school’s 30-minute break, we also got a chance to play volleyball, soccer, and chat some more the amazing students in San Ramon Wanda High School.
Our second field trip of the day was to another school called Fabretto. This was another amazing experience for our educational day. We met with 21 students who are part of a program called ACCESS. We were amazed to see how fast these students have been able to learn English in such little time. ACCESS is a program that truly helps students learn English. We heard from some students why is it so important to them to learn English. They told us that English will help them find a better career later on in life. The Glimpsers had a great time talking to students from both institutions. This was our first time talking to students our age since we got here!
Lookin’ good Flynnzo. Guess who’s watching? Yup . . . In a fez. Yeah
Sounds like a fantastic day! I’m sure that it was an interesting experience to speak with students your own age that come from a totally different environment.
Molly, everyone at the swim meet asked about you. I’m hoping that some people will leave messages for you. We got your message last night. Glad that everyone is okay and that the earthquake did not change any plans.
We love you. Mom, Dad, Eli, Zach and Pebbles
