Hi Glimpser Families! My name is Maddie and I’m gonna be writing the first half of the daily blog (Julia will be writing the second). Thank you to all the parents for leaving comments, and Dad, your moves will always be sweeter than mine. Today is the 4th day of our trip and education day. After our usual early morning and breakfast, we then planned our “English Tutoring Class” in which we will carry out later today. We then took a bus to Unidad Educativa Especial Carlos Gabay which is a school dedicated to helping kids with mental and physical disabilities. The school is constantly growing with 348 students ranging from 2 months to 18 years old. Besides the traditional subjects like language and mathematics they teach hands on skills like cooking and woodworking. After a long tour of the facility and its many wonderful programs (like hydrotherapy) we took a bus to a farm owned and operated by the school. There they grow herbs (for example toronquil which makes great tea), tomatoes, and peppers. They also raise some adorable animals like guinea pigs and rabbits. One of the male rabbits was the size of a small golden retriever puppy which I thought was very cute. After finishing our second tour we headed off for lunch at Nativa.

Hello! My name is Julia, and I was the second lider del dia today. After lunch at Nativa’s, we drove back to our hostel for a quick seminar about our CAP (Community Action Project) in which we will carry out during later dates. After this seminar, we quickly dressed up, hopped on the bus, and drove to another school campus. Diego, one of our leaders, assigned us classrooms in which each group had an assigned leader (they were Maddie, Cesar, Andrea, Kimberly, Dallana, Marcos, and I) and, along with all other global glimpse participants, we taught Ecuadorian students, ages ranging from 6 to 30, English. In my class, Zahra, Amay, Faith, and I taught ten 7 to 8 year olds conversation starters, fruits, names, etc. We also played games with them and sung songs such as “Head and shoulders”. In my picture, one of the boys in our class gave me a small paper boat he made by himself in his free time (he also gave Zahra one too) :). Some of these pictures show us teaching our students English. Ms. Burton also took some pictures of rainbows as we were teaching! Today was another great day and we cannot wait for what’s in store later.
