Buenos dias familia y amigos (Hello family and friends)! My name is Waleed and today I had the wonderful opportunity of being El Lider del Día on our very first fun day!

We started our day by waking up at 5:00 A.M. and headed out to officially start our fun day at 5:45 A.M. with breakfast to go. Our first stop was to Volcano Masaya, an active volcano and one of the “seven openings of Hell” you can visit around the world. There we visited three different view points to take pictures and create amazing memories with our new Global Glimpse family! We had an amazing view of the mouth of the volcano where we got to see the steam slowly rise and dissolve before our very eyes. We even had the opportunity to throw rocks down the volcano and make a wish, although it was so deep we could not hear the rocks hit the bottom. After our memory cards were full with all the pictures we took, we headed out to Laguna de Apoyo. There we had a delicious lunch of Kebob, an Aztec Salad, or many other options of our choice. When our tummies were satisfied we went on to buy Virgin Piña Coladas and headed out to swim and kayak in an inactive Volcano! The view was surreal with the luscious green mountains of Nicaragua completely surrounding us. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience to be able to swim in a volcano that was once spitting out lava. After saying good bye to the lagoon we headed back home where we ate a lentil based dinner and had a program seminar preparing ourselves for A $1 A Day!

Today I learned how tightly-knit our delegation has truly become, from making sure everyone was included in our water activities to assisting our peers climb on to the floating dock twenty yards from shore. I was truly inspired by all of my fellow Glimpsers today because of how well everyone cooperated with each other to ensure a safe and enjoyable day. Being El Lider del Día was a fun yet challenging experience. There was a lot of behind the scenes work from ensuring everyone has all of their belongings to ensuring you understand the instructions from your program coordinator that you will later have to relay to the rest of your group. All in all, being the leader today was a great experience, 10/10 would do again.

E1C over and out!
