Hi my name is Tania. Today I was the Leader of the Day for Politics Day. My peers and I have learned a lot today especially because we were visited by one of the government leaders, Armando, and the Mayor of Constanza, Ambiorix. We learned that Global Glimpse is not the only group trying to make a difference in the country. What really hit me about today is that when the government is trying to make a difference, the people would start stealing those resources. One example is education. Education is one of the problems here in Constanza. Without education you are not aware of how you affect certain places. It is a major issue that despite the government’s effort to make sure the people get the right education they need (for example money to by more books, increasing the amount of schools etc.) people are stealing that money that the people need.

What surprised me the most was that there are a lot of issues that I’m not aware of here in Constanza. For example with respect to safety, for the past days I have seen a lot of people on one motorcycle. The minimum I have seen here is four riders with no helmet, and I have also seen twelve year old boys riding motorcycles. I was not expecting to see anything like this.

I’m most proud of my peers when we met the Mayor and Armando. We asked a lot of questions because we were so interested in the issues here and how they were affecting the people. One of the main issues that was brought up was trash. We had a lot of questions about the issue and we wanted to know what their plans were for changing the way trash is handled.

Some of the most inspiring people I met today were the local kids. They were really passionate about changing things here in Constanza, and it was really nice hearing their voices as youths as opposed to only getting the perspectives of those in power.

It was amazing being a leader because I had the chance to set a good example for the group, and even though it was Politics Day, we had a lot of fun as group. When you are a leader you want those under your leadership to learn, but you also want them to have a lot of fun. Therefore today was a great experience.

I have learned a lot about myself. At first I didn’t think that I could lead fifteen students of my same age while in a different country, and I was very nervous. However it turned out to be a great day because we had a lot of fun as a whole group. I didn’t think that I had it in me. It was amazing today, and I would love to do it again. I want to thank Global Glimpse for giving me this opportunity to be here.
