Hola!!! Having a 3 hour wait in Miami gave the students a great chance to get to know each other. They quickly started playing card games. Just as we were seated on the airplane about to depart for Nicaragua, a huge rainstorm, complete with lightning, abruptly came. We had to sit on the plane for 1 1/2 hours before we could finally leave. When we made it through immigration, our coordinators, Julia and Alex, were there to greet us with a large orange sign with
GLOBAL GLIMPSE written on it. We got on the bus and made our way to Pizza Hut for our first meal (yes, we know that is not exactly Nicaragua food…but it was good). We stayed in a hotel in Managua, complete with birds in cages. It was hot and humid. We had to get up at 5:45 am to get on the bus at 6:00 am….and everyone made it on time.
The drive to Jinotega was 2 1/2 hours. We were grateful to leave the city and travel through the countryside before starting the winding climb through the mountains to get to Jinotega. The lush beauty of the mountains, the cooler air, and the fresh smells were welcoming to us.
Hi Debbie. Glad your wait on the plane wasn’t too long.
Sounds like everything is going pretty much to plan – so great!
I thought it might be easier for family if I copy your messages and
send them on. Does that sound good to you?
I found a map that shows where Jinotega is and a shot
of the town from a distant hill that I included with report #1 :o)
