Hello family and friends my name is Bryanna and I am a fellow Glimpser that had the pleasure to be the leader of the day today!
Today we had a free day and we split into two individual groups and roomed around the beautiful city of Esteli.
It was a very relaxing day and we visited a local coffee shop, souvenirs stores, internet cafe and we got to call our parents and use the Internet for a while. Some of us got a little emotional hearing our loved ones voices and some of us sadly only got to here the voicemail machine. But anyways we all stayed strong and kept a big smile on our faces and enjoyed the rest of our day.
Later through out the day we got to talk about our community action project which later turned into a very hectic discussion but we all chipped in our creative ideas!
My favorite part of the day was when we all got together and shared our wonderful ideas during our seminar about the community action project and we are all very excited about this specific project!
E1C over and out!
Glimpsers calling home!
Hello Esteli Glimpsers, and a special hello to James who posted to friends in Oakland on Facebook. It’s really hard to envision a good community action project. Sounds like you are on your way. Glad you are having a good time in Nicaragua. We missed James at the Lake Merritt pickle weed project today. The plants are looking lush and are spreading out. We saw baby ducklings. Take care and bring back good stories to share about your trip. Best, Mrs. N. Oakland High/ESA
We have been watching the blog everyday Emma, and enjoy Esteli along with you and all your fellow Glimpsrs. Love the photos keep them coming.
Hello Glimpsers, Keep up the good work and keep posting us at home. It is really great to read your leader posts. Hi Michael T !! Thank you for the phone call!! Very comforting to hear your voice. You made me feel better with your informing comment about the snakes. Love You! Dad
Hi E1C! I was feeling pretty nostalgic tonight and decided to look through the blogs and WOW, it’s incredible how much I miss a place that was only my home for nineteen days. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to make the most of your experience in Esteli – one day you’ll look back and miss it, I promise. I got very excited to read the Education Day blog, I’m so pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves! I just wanted to say a few things:
1) Go to the bakery and try a slice of the chocolate cake. Henny and Bev will know what I am referring to, it is so MOIST and decadent and it would be a shame to not give it a taste before leaving Esteli, but it is quite rich so go when you’re hungry. Also, it’s in a sketchy area so ladies please watch out
2) La Colonia has an incredible exchange rate, please take advantage of it!! Pay for grocery items in U.S. dollars and reap the benefits in Nicaraguan Cordoba
3) The smoothie place’s best item is the Mango, Banana, Papaya flavor
4) Cafe Don Luis also has really great paninis and crepes (the crepes are in no way French though, more fried like Vietnamese crepes) BUT service takes foreverrrrr, so if you want to quickly grab a drink without being late please drop by the cafe that’s across the street from the hostel
5) TRY A MANGO. Buy it from a street vendor, also buy a pitaya (it’ll make your lips and tongue turn purple) and BANANAS. The fruit in Nicaragua was so fresh, everything in the U.S. makes me want to cry now because it’s all so different and way more expensive as well
6) This is to the three students teaching Advanced English (I recognized the room and my students instantly when I browsed through the blog photos): tell them I miss them soooooooo much!! Tiffany, Anu, and I all send everyone our love. We weren’t able to wish many of them goodbye, so let them know how much teaching them meant to us. Push the two handsome Josés out of their comfort zones as well because they kind of cling together
5) @ Beverly & Henny: Spencer, Solana, Grace and I are dying to know the names of those two songs that we point out on our myriad bus rides throughout Esteli, PLEASE email them to me @ [email protected] when you get a chance (-: we all miss you both very much.
I think I’m done now. I might comment on a post later but for now, ENJOY! I apologize for the long comment, but I’m hoping that it’ll make the Nightly Meeting tonight feel a little more entertaining. Good luck with everything, I believe in you all!
Warm regards,
Persis Shirazi
