After a long night and morning of travel, we were so excited to finally meet our Program Coordinators (PCs), Erik and Tania at the airport! We loaded our stuff on a bus and took a 3 hour ride through the beautiful countryside before arriving at our final destination: Hostal Tomabu in Esteli, Nicaragua! The students were so thankful to eat some delicious food and have some time to rest, unpack, and settle in at the hostel. We had our first group meeting with our PCs, who welcomed us to what is sure to be a life changing experience.

John and I are already so impressed by the insightful, thoughtful, and passionate young people we are privileged to travel with on this experience. It was so fun meeting everyone’s families at JFK (even though it was the middle of the night!) The Glimpsers are already mingling and getting to know one another and it has been wonderful getting to know them and seeing them come out of their shells.

The students have already had really inspiring and exciting things to share with the group –

“I want to push myself out of my comfort zone”

“I want to become more independent”

“I want to learn to appreciate the little things we take for granted”

“I want to learn how to help others”

– and this is only day one!

Tomorrow’s day will include a deep dive into the history of Nicaragua and a tour of the city of Esteli!
