We continued our Community Action Project at Infancia sin fronteras today. Our project consisted of painting a mural to add creativity to the center, building a wall to separate the diseased and ill patients from the children, building a ceiling to eliminate heat from the children’s learning area, and building a door to keep the center safe.
As I (Imani) was a part of the team that built a wall, I learned the importance of infrastructure and a strong support. Support is more than just adding nails to blocks of wood to hold them together, but having a team and community that helps and encourages you. Support is more than just having the ability to stand up on your own, but also being capable of sustaining for a lifetime. Building a wall has had a big influence on my life because I learned how to structure a wall while also strengthening my communication skills.
As I (Nina) was a part of the team that built a ceiling, I learned the importance of teamwork and motivation. Teamwork is important because it’s hard for one person to do all the working. Also, I checked up on everyone and told them they were doing a good job so they can push through their project and continue to work hard. Building the ceiling had a big influence on my life because I’m doing something that will affect the children of the community in a positive way.
Being Leader of the Day meant more than just having the opportunity to tell my peers what to do, but also the chance to make a huge imprint on the community by leading by example. Being Leader of the Day took patience, integrity, and determination. We had the opportunity to learn how to deal with multiple personalities and face minor setbacks. What inspired us was the kids that walked pass and said, “good job” for our hard work. We will continue to keep up the good work tomorrow, our last day to complete the projects we started.

I am so proud of you, and I am glad that you see the importance of infrastructure and strong support. Infrastructure and support is important to life has a whole. The African proverb “it takes a village to raise a child” is not just a saying. It is based on a strong support system, and you are a prime example of that (church support, family support, and community support). Although, you have had the opportunity to have these support systems many have not. I pray that just as people support you, you in turn give back and offer your support. We love and miss you so much, but God has called you to do his work, so please listen.
