Hi everyone! It’s Lisia and Eriella here and we were leaders of the day of “Living Like a Local” today.

We woke up hella early today around six o’clock doing wake up calls. Today we had a busy day ahead of us and this is a quick overview. As we traveled to the community of Tejerina we seen families walking with huge buckets or containers that they had taken to the well in order for them to get water to cook, clean and drink. We were then separated into pairs and assigned to a house. For example, me as in Lisa got assigned to the head of the community with Marla and it was an amazing experience making tortillas but it was hard work carrying Home Depot-like buckets filled with water up the hill and back to their house. And as for me, Eriella, I was paired up with David. It was hard to communicate with our family because there was a language barrier. Yet we still tried our best to connect through music. In exchange of accepting us in their homes we provided over 100 plates of food for the families and the children! We had an activity with the kids at their local school by having piñata for both the boys and girls. Seeing them smile and having fun made all of our days and even though these kids didn’t have the newest phone or any materialistic items they were happy with what they had.

After we said our good byes to our families and the children we went back to the hostel to have our program seminar. Our program seminar consisted of the discussion for our CAP project for Sor Maria and the debate of painting the interior and exterior of the school, applying new concrete to create a walkway, making a mural, and extending the roof. We all came to a conclusion that creating a pathway for the children and a mural. Then we wrapped up the night with dinner, which consisted of only rice, black beans, and tortilla, and English tutoring.
