¡Hola, Glimpsers!

It’s almost time for you to get on a plane and come meet us in the land of Pura Vida, Costa Rica. We are so excited to have our LAST DELEGATION of the summer here, and guide you through the packed-but-super-fun 14-day itinerary that we have prepared for you to immerse yourselves in the culture and lifestyle of the “Ticos” and “Ticas”.

We are the program coordinators for your trip and we thought it would be appropriate to introduce ourselves to you via the trip blog (which you will use during your trip to share updates with your friends and family) before we finally meet in person on Wednesday.

Sonia – Hello everyone! My name is Sonia Membreño, I’m 28 years old, and I’m from Managua, Nicaragua, the land of lakes and volcanoes, just right above Costa Rica on the map!

I’m a graphic designer by profession, but I have made it a goal in life to always look for opportunities and environments where my knowledge and skills can be used to contribute to the betterment of society, which is why I consider myself super lucky to have found – throughout the years – various different ways to connect my design background with other passions of mine such as education, travel, community development, and cultural exchange. This has resulted in the opportunity to work and volunteer with people and organizations, both in Nicaragua and abroad, that are doing incredible work to make our world a better, more inclusive, and fairer place.

This will be my second time working with Global Glimpse, as I had the pleasure to lead three delegations in Chitré, Panama in 2019. Being a PC for GG has definitely been one of my favorite professional experiences so far. I believe in the power of travel as education and opportunity, and a greater means to community and empowerment. I am thrilled to be back this year to be part of this life-changing experience for 100+ more students!

In my free time, I love NAPPING, watching movies/series, going to the beach, hanging out with my friends, reading about random stuff, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with my dog, Phoebe. I try to do some kind of exercise occasionally to stay active, and since the pandemic, I’ve become a skincare enthusiast, so trust me when I tell you that I will be making sure that you use sunscreen and stay hydrated at all times (you’ll thank me later!).

Can’t wait to meet you all!!! ¡Nos vemos el miércoles!

Big love,
Sonia

“Memo” – Hi, my name is Guillermo, but you can call me Memo…it’s easier to “memo”-rize. I was born and raised in Turrialba and have lived in Aquiares for 6 years. I studied Eco-Tourism at the University of Costa Rica and I’ve been a guide for more than 15 years.

I really enjoy my job and I like hikes (especially with my daughter and my 5 dogs). I like all types of animals and playing video games. I can’t wait to meet you and share with you a little bit of my beautiful community and country, which is the most beautiful country in the world…

See you around soon, I hope!

Pura vida,
Memo

We’ll be getting to know each other better during the trip. In the meantime, we want to remind you of something that we think is very important:

A trip abroad is an opportunity to witness and participate in life in another country; connect with local people and learn about the ways in which they experience the world. You have been preparing for this trip for quite some time now, so let’s make that preparation time worthwhile. This will be a life-changing experience that we’re certain you’ll treasure forever, so make sure to pack an open heart and an open mind and leave some room for GROWTH! Let’s do this!!
