Hi Everyone! My name is Dorothy Le, and I was the ELDD. The challenge of the day was working like a local. Today we all had a hard time waking up at 5 am, because the day before that was Free Day. We had breakfast at 6 am then we went to the chicken farm at 7 am. The chicken farm was an unusual place for all of us because we all live in cities. Everyone was afraid of being near the chickens but in the end everyone was able to step out of their comfort zone and caught a chicken by themselves. We had to collect eggs, clean the outside of the chicken’s den and clean the inside of the den. We finished early so we were able to eat lunch at our hostel and take a lovely shower after working with chickens. Everyone learned how to appreciate the food they ate because our lunch was rice with chicken.
After lunch, we were writing appreciation letters to our Global Glimpse’s donors. Writing the letter was a nice self-refection time for all of us. We went to Museum of Myths and Legends after we prepared our English tutoring. In the museum we learned more about Nicaragua’s history. For example, how prisoners were treated and how the Spaniard was after the native indigenous treasurers. After the museum we went back for dinner, taught our English lesson and had our nightly meeting.
Today was another great experience for all of us.
Hello all, it sounds like you had a long busy day. I see your smiling faces and a lot of chickens. I hope tutoring went well. I wish I would have gotten a phone call, but I still love ya. Til tomorrow hugs and kisses!
Thank you Dorothy for the colorful pictures and blog posted today. It has connected us to your daily experiences. Great job everyone attempting to go out side of the box and work with the locals at the chicken farm. I know it was tough, being that all of you were city slickers, but just look at what you accomplished, chasing chicken, collecting eggs, cleaning up the chicken den and that will never leave your thoughts each and everytime you eat an egg. :-). Continue learning more about the history of Nicaragua. The “Museum of Mythis and Legends” is one of the very fascinating attractions in Nicaragua. I am looking forward to learning more from all of you and about your adventures. Wonderful blog! Tenga cuidado de los niños.
Hi Everyone! Yep you ALL are courageous. To actually chose to Go some place a gazillion miles from home with other kids you don’t really know just to end up with more strangers. How incredibly unselfish and giving of ALL of you.
As I type this I realize I had always suspected Nicole had a giving soul. Her decision to help strangers so far from home confirms that for me. The fact that the rest of you made the same selfless decision tells me you ALL have giving souls…Now get back here and give us all a BIG hug.
You have my admiration. Love Ya Nicole, Auntie Kathy
Hola! Usted tipos sigue asombrándome. No sé si yo podría trabajar con pollos vivos y luego tener al pollo para el almuerzo. You guys continue to amaze me. I do not know if I could work with live chickens and then have chicken for lunch. While I love❤️ the pictures. Some of the adventures you guys conquer, I would love ❤️ to see on video. Today’s adventure would have been priceless on video. Is anyone videotaping you guys? I know you guys have stories to tell that could go on forever. I can not wait to hear them. And WOW, the friendships and the bonds you guys have formed-PRICELESS! Nyla, I love your smile; mom
It sounds like it was another incredible day for all of you. The things that you are getting to experience are going to be amazing memories for you as well. It is very hard to relate to other peoples realities until you have been immersed in their world. Enjoy your last week there and soak in all that Nicaragua can offer. Love you lots Nicole! Thank you to all of you who are blogging for us to follow along with your experiences.
It’s great reading about the activities and different experiences you all are having. Hopefully you were able to taste some of the farm fresh eggs also. It’s a lot of work (and also dirty work) tending to chickens and collecting eggs. im proud of you all for getting out of your comfort zone.
Kim C – We miss you. Your mom, dad and Carl really miss you. We can’t wait to see you soon again but we are all so happy that you are able to learn and experience what life is like for others. im hopeful that this experience will help you appreciate life and all it has to offer.

Hi Dorothy!! Im having a lot of fun at Esteli too. I made a lot of new friends and I hope you did too. I miss you and hope we see each other soon.
Hiya glimmers. Made me smile about your write up……re, chicken farm. I can just imagine the smell of the farm , proud that I inspite of all the work in that condition, you were able to tackle the job. I know how much work that was and what entails the job, my family had a large poultry when we were growing up. Collecting the eggs was sure fun, and having real fresh chicken and eggs is really a treat. Now you know what people do so we can get our food nice and clean from the refrigerator, just ready to cook. Looking forward to your share of new experiences…..keep on !
Oh to see all of you chasing the poor chickens.. Hope someone took video and lots of pictures. The memories you are making for yourself and the people you are visiting are priceless. I’m sure next time you eat chicken or an egg this experience will make you smile!
Love and miss you Nicole ! Mom
