Hello Glimpsers and families! Greetings from San Juan de la Maguana! We are Sixto Cabral and Dámarit Pérez, your Program Coordinators in this amazing experience and we want to give you a warm welcome to this amazing city of San Juan in Dominican Republic. We are very excited about the amazing experience we have ahead and we are so excited for sharing with you the awesome itinerary that we have prepared for you!

During the 15 days trip we are going to have the opportunity to know about the culture, history, community movements, immigration, global business, poverty, aid and development in San Juan de la Maguana and in Dominican Republic in general. There are a lot of amazing things to see and experience here. San Juan de la Maguana is a great and very sunny town, located in the south of the country, in the province of San Juan. It has a lot of culture and really good architecture. We have beautiful parks and plazas that we are sure that you’ll love! Also, Dominican people are very nice and welcoming as they love meeting and sharing with other cultures. They are waiting for you!  And they love to speak English!  Through this experience, you will have the opportunity to engage in Dominican culture and lifestyle through activities such as: knowing about the Carnival “San Juanero” with Ciliosther and Ángel, dance classes with the Folkloric Ballet of San Juan, sharing time with inspirational speakers and communities like the amazing people from Maguana al Medio, learning about the history of San Juan, going to the Dominican-Haitian border to learn more about the immigration situation in the country, and experience what it feels like to work like a local on a coffee farm – not to mention having some fun time and also at the beach in Barahona!

We are sure that this experience is going to change many things in your lives and you are going to experience different feelings and thoughts, but what’s for sure is that we are going to have lots of fun and good moments. This experience will help you to discover new realities and return home with new perspectives and knowledge that will challenge you see the world in a different way. You are going to develop your leadership skills for sure! We will be here to support you every step of the way throughout this experience, so bring all your energy and curiosity!

See you soon in San Juan de la Maguana!

Ps. Don’t forget to bring a personal water bottle, plenty of sunscreen and mosquito repellant!
