This morning we had a very early wake up call of 5:30 so that we could be ready in time to go to school! After a deliciously simple breakfast of cornflakes, we headed out. We were told the school we visited was a Christian school, but when we got there some of us were a little surprised by how much they incorporated religion into their daily lessons. After sitting in on a few classes, we had time for some breaks. We played two futbol (soccer) games, both in which the Nica teens won. Although, a couple of our boys did win a basketball game.

After returning to the hostel for lunch, we had a seminar where we began planning our CAP Project. We are all very very excited to begin helping out at Proyecto Miriam, a foundation that helps single mothers and abuse victims get settled into careers and schooling. We then had another trip to Fabretto Foundation, a Montessori based school that is encouraging school and learning through fun and games. It was really cool for all of us to see how the children seem so happy to be in the school learning, especially when you can see the understanding of a new concept come over them as they play and laugh.

After dinner, we headed out once again to our English tutoring classes. Today was our third class, and most of us really feel we are really connecting with our students. It feels nice to be able to teach the students new words as they are all so eager to learn. We’ve made it halfway through and are excited to see what the next week brings!
