Hola, padres y tutores!

Today, we spent the whole day at the base house learning about the project we will be starting tomorrow at the local school, El Yas Escuela Otto Mora Perez, and our theme of the day, Aid & Development. Our PCs hosted the first seminar describing what we could expect from the average Community Action Project (CAP). The students split into groups and collaborated to come up with possible variables to keep in mind when trying to make a long-lasting project. All of them learned how to take initiative and determine what the project may need independently from adult guidance.
An environmental researcher named Rodrigo Mendez hosted the second seminar, which was in four parts: regarding the environment, the pillars of sustainability, teamwork, and the natural resources of Costa Rica. Many of our amazing groupmates volunteered to translate for him (and did an absolutely fabulous job!). We had an hour of downtime, then did a reflection on the trip so far and get-to-know-you questions. Even though we just met each other a few days ago, we are becoming a strong community of leaders who share similar goals and values. We feel our group mates are really learning from and appreciating this trip, especially being away from their cell phones! We wrapped up our day with dinner and passed the torch on to the next leaders of the day, Em and Stella. We’re excited for another action-packed day tomorrow, and the official start of the Community Action Project!

Pura Vida!
