Student Trip Blog

Aid, Development and CAP Discovery

Today was the first day being led by student LDDs. We began with our morning breakfast consisting of sandwiches (with amazing dressing), juice, and fruit. Then, we had our mental warmup before heading over to Plan Yaque. On the bus, we saw many animals and friendly locals. Once there, we played some group games, helping to strengthen our bonds with each other. Once we entered inside, we learned from volunteers from Germany about the purpose and impact of their organization. We learned about the relationship between pollution and nature (especially pertaining to rivers) and gained a lot of insight about the impact of NGOs on the Global South. After, we headed back to lunch at the RR, consisting of rice, pork chops, Russian salad, and juice.

After lunch, we headed over to Crucero, a community in Jarabacoa. We learned about how the community faces difficulties in regard to water access and potential ways we as Global Glimpse students can make a potential difference. Through this, we began to brainstorm ideas for our CAP project.

Once we headed back, some of the group decided to head over to the corner store with an adult supervisor. We got various drinks and snacks, some reminiscent of home, such as Sprite, and some new snacks introducing Dominican Republican culture to the students.

Over dinner, we celebrated T.J.’s birthday with a chocolate cake with (amazing) cherries on top. This was a wonderful ending, the symbolic cherry on top of a great day. In the end, we went over the day’s activities and passed the torch over to our next LDD, who we are excited to see lead tomorrow’s wonderful activities.

We all miss you! Hugs and kisses to Coco the doggy ?

Big Love, Pragati and Riya !!
