Ayuda y desarrollo

Hola amigos y familia!

It is the first student Líderes del Día (LDD) Maylin and Leah! Today, some of us started our day with a quick trip to the supermarket to get some early morning snacks. Then, we got back to our hotel for a delicious breakfast of salchichas (sausages) and fried corn tortilla, and fresh pineapple (Maylin’s favorite part).

After breakfast, we visited our CAP (Community Action Project) partner, Nutre Hogar, for the first time. During our visit, we spoke with the Nutre Hogar’s administrator, Maruquel, and learned what the non-profit’s mission was and what they needed and expected from us. We also got to play with the children in Nutre Hogar’s care (shoutout to the baby girl who fell asleep on Steffan). It hit many of us in the heart to see these young malnourished children yet inspired us to see the several workers at Nutre Hogar who are passionate and have devoted years to their work.

After leaving Nutre Hogar, we had lunch and some free time, during which many Glimpsers were able to call home. Some others went back to the supermarket and La Carolina, a local bakery, for more snacks.

After a quick warm-up game, we attended a long seminar led by PC’s Luz and Marco, where we discussed ideas for how we could help Nutre Hogar in our CAP project. Once we narrowed down ideas to gardening, sewing bedding, and painting murals for Nutre Hogar, we held a student-run discussion and prepared proposals for Nutre Hogar. We are extremely proud of our peers for stepping up and collaborating to plan these projects.

Then we went straight to dinner, American-style fried chicken, fries, and salad. Once everyone had eaten, we set up a surprise party for Maylin’s 17th birthday while she called home. The party was a blast with dancing and a delicious cake. Happy birthday Maylin!

Also, right before lights out, a group of us went stargazing to see the Rose Full Moon. With the gorgeous Las Tablas street in the background, the scene was lovely.

Overall, today was an important step in facilitating our CAP project, with meeting our collaborator, directly facing the issue they are fighting, and working to plan our project. As Líderes del Día, we learned how to efficiently organize a large group, embrace our leadership skills, and get things done. It was a hugely rewarding day.

Big love!

Maylin and Leah

(P.S  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ love Maylin :D)
