CAP DAY 1! (No. 7)

Greetings families,

This is Arelly and Azul writing to you from Panama! Today our wakeup call was 7:00 am. For breakfast, we had pancakes, eggs, and tropical fruit (papaya and pineapple.) The pancakes were delicious. We have a really good cook her name is Angie after she made them the first time everyone was craving them for breakfast today. After breakfast, a couple of people headed to buy materials for our CAP day. Our CAP project that we started to execute today was painting the doors of the school. We arrived at 10:30 and worked until 4:00! In between this time, we had lunch of course, they aren’t starving us don’t worry.  There are nine doors to paint and they all have to be really detailed and precise. The different doors were painted representing the subjects taught in those specific classrooms. The principal Erica was really passionate about this project not only to beautify the school but also to attract more students. Painting was fun, tiring, and messy. I think we all felt the exhaustion, especially after lunch which was Spaghetti Bolognese. We were ready for a nap by this point but we persevered. Even though it was tiring we know we are doing something positive for the community and making an impact which I think was all of our goals coming into this program. At around two some of the school kids came to interact with us it was really fun. We handed them candy and a rubber chicken that screams. Me and Azul used this chicken to wake people up in the morning. 3:30 pm was project clean-up time. For sure the hardest part was cleaning paint off our hands. Right now Azul’s hands are stained blue but hey at least it matches her name. We got to the hotel and had some time to shower before dinner which was chicken tacos, they were a big hit Christian ate 10. Azul and I had three. Then it was nightly meeting time where we passed the torch which was a relief that and azul are ready for bed (after the tacos.) The next leaders are Cameron and Alondra they are excited to take the lead. Goodbye homies.

Hola Azul,
Espero la estés pasando muy bien. Estoy muy pendiente de ti y de Alondra leyendo lo que andan haciendo. Estoy muy orgullosa de ustedes porque sé que andan fuera de su zona de confort. Disfruten estos últimos días.

Thank you Arelly and Azul for your blog update! Your CAP project sounds like a creative opportunity for everyone to make a positive impact for Principal Erica and the school. Glad to see you’re able to take a break and have fun with some local school kids. After a busy and humid day of “painting and staying within the lines”, you’ve (most definitely) earned a well-deserved rest after dinner to recharge yourselves for another amazing day. Can’t wait to see the final results of all the painted doors ?‍???‍???‍???‍???‍???‍??…looking forward to the next recap from Cameron and Alondra!
