Casco viejo and Welcome to Las Tablas!

¡Hola!

After spending the night in our hotel in Panamá City we had an early start for a packed day. After having breakfast, we headed out for a city tour around Casco Viejo (Panama’s old town), where we had the chance to visit the Plaza de la Independencia, the Cathedral, de Mola Museum, the Compañía de Jesús ruins, and finally the Museo del Canal. It was a morning full of learning and amazement about Panama’s rich history and its complex relations with other countries like Colombia and the US.

After that, we started our trip to Las Tablas, and thanks to a team effort from the whole group we got to beat the traffic or tranque, which believe us, is a big deal over here. We even got to see from afar the Panama Canal on our way out of the city! During the trip, we got to listen to a playlist created by our wonderful GGLs which had suggestions from all the Glimpsers, so it was quite varied.

When we got to Las Tablas, we entered our home for the rest of the trip. Having settled in, we got the welcome orientation in which the group was reminded of some rules, expectations, and protocols for the trip. We also had our seminar about the Líder del día. Each one of the Glimpsers will have a day to be LDD throughout the trip to develop their leadership skills!

Then, we had our first dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. We followed this delicious meal with our first official nightly meeting, where the Ps passed the torch of leadership to the GGLs who will be the LDDs for tomorrow.

We are really excited to continue to get to know the students, they all seem amazing and fascinating young people. We are so looking forward to experiencing the next couple of weeks with each of them!
