Chimborazo

Estimada padres, familia, y amigos.

Hi! We’re Amelia and Teo and we were LDD’s today, which was Chimborazo Day!

We had to get everyone up at 6 am because Chimborazo was two hours away, but with a lot of effort, we were able to get people out of bed on time. After a delicious breakfast at Isabel’s, we left at 7:30 to reach the mountain. We were accompanied by Alex, our Health Coordinator, Javier, our in-country coordinator, and two guides.

We were very fortunate today that Chimborazo was not obscured by clouds, and we were able to get a beautiful view of all five peaks. We checked in at First Refuge and had something to drink, and then drove further up the mountain where we were able to see an obelisk dedicated to Simon Bolivar, the liberator of Ecuador and four other South American countries.

We went further down the mountain to do a short hike on a mountain biking trail, where we were able to see flowers that only grow on Chimborazo, as well as Vicuñas, which are similar to llamas, and within Ecuador, they only live in the Chimborazo region.

After the long travel day at Chimborazo, we headed back to Riobamba and ate lunch at Isabel’s. Tired after a long day, we walked back to the hotel and had free time, where people had the option to go out in groups to walk around the city or to rest at the hotel. We arrived at dinner and were greeted by Global Glimpse board members, who videoed dinner. Gabo presented us with a heartwarming video that he made about his time with us, and the impact we had on him, along with several video clips he captured of us. We had a fun night of dancing, and then unfortunately we had to stay on schedule and head back for our last nightly meeting.

Grey and Vanessa sang a duet for us (with some wonderful guitar) for the final talent presentation of the trip, and we ended the night with lots of Big Love. Tomorrow will be bittersweet, but we are so thankful for the people we’ve met, the memories we’ve made, and the experiences that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

Your incredibly talented and super funny LDD’s,

Amelia (Mia) A Renfro and Teo Gonzales
