Community Action Project – Day 1 (No. 9)

Today, we woke up at 6:30, which was a struggle because it was an hour earlier than our usual wake-up time. Breakfast consisted of pancakes, eggs, and fruit. Then, we left by bus for Monte Coca to present our community action project to Don Roberto, the community leader. We outlined our plans to build a latrine and a house, dividing into four teams: roofing, wall sanding, latrine, and flooring. However, Don Roberto had different ideas, so we focused on the latrine and walls today. We mixed cement, applied it to walls, built walls with cinderblocks, and dug up clay. These incredible experiences gave us valuable skills and connected us with the community.

For lunch, we enjoyed chicken and rice with the community. After the break, we resumed work until heavy rain forced us to call it a day and return to ASCALA. For dinner, we had fried rice, salad, and french fries prepared by Judith. We ended the day with our nightly meeting, where we sang a song with our band, Baymax and the Gerbils.

Congrats on your first day as leader, Raven! Very cool to see how much you all accomplished in such a short time. I really hope there’s a video of the Baymax and Gerbils performance

Wow!! You all are working hard and making it look fun in the process ? A house is very impressive!! Can you believe that in a few more days you’ll be home? Keep up the energy till the end! I’m cheering you all on!!
And Anna, I miss you so much ☹️ EB has been keeping busy with housekeeping before the new school year! Spartan Start, EB activities, and orientation feels so weird without you. I was painting posters and I got sad because I was reminded of the time we painted that rainbow for Spartan’s Pause. I know you’re having lots of fun though, and for that I’m glad! I hope these next few days fly by so I can see you once again! I’m always thinking about you! ?

Tone. We all miss you at home and please know, how proud we are of you. By the way, I need those cement skills at home. Let’s build a new shed when you get back. I love you.
