Culture Day (No. 2)

Today we woke up at 7 and started off our day with an amazing breakfast that consisted of eggs, croissants, fruits, oatmeal, and Dominican hot chocolate. At 9 we had an energizer and shared facts about ourselves to get to know each other better. At 10 we rode to the beach. The ride there was filled with many different genres of music. We stopped for some students to purchase towels. 10:30 we arrived at the beach and played volleyball in the water. We tried different Dominican snacks and when we arrived back at the ranch at 1 we had lunch. Lunch was rice, chicken, avocado, plantains, and fried eggplant. We had a bunch of free time. We played pool, volleyball, and card games and swam in the pool. We played focus games like “Wah”, “High Low Yo!” and “the smile game”. We learned about dance history and culture in the Dominican Republic. Our dance teacher Angelica taught us dance steps in Bachata, Merengue, and Dembow. For dinner, we had hot dogs with many toppings and condiments, cheese sandwiches, french fries, and rice. We had a self-reflection asking each other questions about our experiences at the DR so far and a nightly meeting where we shared our thoughts about the day.
