Culture Fun Day and City Tour (No. 3)

Today, after breakfast and a mental warm-up, we did a quick walking tour through Jarabacoa. We visited the Fire Station where Coronel Reyes explained the responsibilities of the local fire department, showed us some of the equipment used in their daily operations, and even let volunteers try out a fire hose!

From there, we passed by the City Hall, and discussed local and national politics, viewed the murals outside of the local cemetery, and cooled off with some locally made helado (ice cream)!

We then took a safari truck to El Festival de las Flores (Flower Festival), where local growers sold products ranging from flowers and plants, sweets, and handicrafts. Then it was off to Bohíos Campo Añil, a rural retreat, where we enjoyed a delicious Sancocho, a hearty stew made from regionally-grown meats and vegetables!

After returning to the accommodations, we took a brief rest. Then, we were greeted by Aderly, a local dance instructor. He showed us the basic steps to dances such as Bachata, Merengue, Salsa y Dembow. It was a sweaty good time!

Then we had dinner, our nightly meeting, and wrapped it all up with a unity clap – ask your Glimpsers for an explanation of this.

It was a busy day, full of learning and laughter!
