Day 10- Beginning of our Community Action Project

Today we got up earlier than usual and hopped on the bus to start a big day. We started off the project with a presentation on helping the community and began unpacking supplies from a mini truck. We split into three organized groups, each one having a dedicated task. The planters were to weed and trim anything from dead leaves in small cracks to giant branches hanging from trees. The builders constructed a set of stairs by digging dirt out of the ground. The painters power-washed and scrubbed graffiti, dirt, and moss from brick walls to prepare for painting. Through literal blood, sweat, and tears, we got a tremendous amount of work done. The locals supplied us with hot dogs, condiments, and aguas frescas to boost our energy. We also enjoyed delicious chicken wraps made by our awesome kitchen staff back at the base during our lunch break. The group dealt with grueling heat, crazy bugs, and minor injury to complete the first day of the community action project. We left with awkward tan lines, backaches, and new knowledge of tick checks. After our hard work, we ventured back onto the bus hoping to have a swift arrival back to the showers before dinner. Little did we know, it would take us three long hours of standstill traffic to reach campus. We would then have to rush to dinner and finally get cleaned up before our nightly meeting.

Lots of support and admiration flowed through the room when we reached the BIGGGGG LOVEEE section of our routine. SHOUT OUT TO THE PEEPS DIGGIN THE STEPS, THAT WAS SOME HARD WORK! MASSIVE LOVE GUYS! I CAN’T BELIEVE WE’RE HERE IN COSTA RICAAAAA helping local communities. We are so very grateful for this amazing opportunity!
