Day 10: We ate up CAP

Hey everybody!! Today was extremely eventful (Day one of our CAP delivery! ). We started trying with the hope of playing let it go for the wake-up call, but that dream was shut down instantly. Instead, we played “apple”, by Charli xcx. After finally waking everyone up, we had Grace’s favorite food for breakfast, PANCAKES!!! Along with eggs, and plantains. No morning meeting was held today. Then we hopped on the guagua (bus) and headed to our work site. Everyone was ready to get dirty. Once we left the villa, we made a quick stop to pick up some shovels, in order for us to get to work.

After finally arriving, we got straight to work with shoveling, pickaxing, and putting rocks and dirt into wheelbarrows. Some of us even put our frustration out on the rocks as they threw them, or got joy from hanging out with the little kids. We made sure to take many water fiestas which were key to keep everyone alive and well, in the heat. After working for 3 consecutive hours, we made our way back to the villa for lunch where we had sanchoco, which is a traditional Dominican cuisine that is essentially soup. After taking a much-needed breather, we hopped back on the guagua to continue the grind. We created a well-organized rotating system, where people who shoveled the rocks and sand, carried the buckets with rocks and sand, and those who played with the kids got to alternate roles. 3 hours later everyone was extremely sore, and restless.

Sbeydi, one of our amazing GGL’s, had given us the snack that saved us all on the ride back…goldfish. Arriving back at the villa everyone was tasked with writing a letter to a wonderful donor who made this trip possible for all!!!! Having a two-free time break was much needed for some while others headed into the city. Grace stayed back to relax and chat after a hard workout. while Camiah went into the city with other glimpsers. For dinner, we had some salami, fried cheese, and fried plantains. Now we are about to do our nightly meeting and share all of our big love for the day. Grace has big love for the people at home.

Big love to my mom I miss you and can’t wait to see you in three days. hope y’all don’t miss me too much! Big love to my brother and father for sharing their love and energy with me. I love y’all. And Big love from Camiah to my mom, dad, and favorite(only) brother. Can’t wait to see you guys!!
