Hey everyone! This is Emi and Madeline! Today was the second day of our CAP project. We focused on painting the first layer inside for both of the classrooms that we are working on at Eslabon, and started on the first layer outside as well. The sudden rain made it difficult for everybody to continue working outside, but we made a lot of progress earlier in the day. Everybody was separated into different groups, and each group tackled different areas of the buildings. With 3 groups painting and 1 group working with the metal bars on the windows. After speaking with some of the kids who attend the school, we realized how important and meaningful our project is to them. Many of the children came up to us with faces full of excitement and stood around watching everybody working. Having their presence while we worked pushed us to work harder. As the day went on, everybody settled into their roles and figured out which task they were best at. After a hearty meal for lunch, some sprawled out on the bleachers to sneak in a quick nap. Despite the rain towards the end of the day, our excitement picked up again when Alejandro pulled out a giant speaker set and let us all shuffle through our favorite songs. Instead of making the long journey back to base camp on foot today, we were blessed with a bus ride back!
Looking forward to calling all of you tomorrow!

Yelitza, I’m glad to see you working and concentrating on your CAP. I remember doing my CAP last summer. We also painted, but it was a different school and the fence instead of the classroom walls. I hope you’re enjoying your trip, as I did!
