Hi Everyone! My name is Jose, I’m 17 years old, I go to Overfelt High School in East Side San Jose. I was leader today with Alicia on CAP Day 3, it was a very fun time overall. Some roses I had was that we finished all of our main projects, had burgers for dinners, and am currently watching a movie with my group. However, my thorn was when we didn’t have much to do as we had completed most of the work in the first two days. Hi, my name is Alicia and I go to Lincoln High School in San Francisco. Today I was Leader of the Day with Jose for day 3 of our CAP project at Nutre Hogar. One rose from today was finishing our CAP project and showing the owner of Nutre Hogar all of our finished projects. A thorn of today was that our water supply was off for awhile.
Today, we woke everyone up at 7am and gave them an hour to get ready. After breakfast, we went ahead and had a health check in. Next, we got on the bus and headed to Nutre Hogar for our last CAP day. Several people chose to continue weeding the yard outside and work on other outdoor tasks, while most people helped paint underneath the nurse’s table in the infirmary room. Everyone worked hard and pitched into the success. The final step was to sign our names on one of the murals as we wrapped up the third and final CAP project. We listened to Maruquel’s, the manager, thank you speech before we ate a cake that she gave us as a thank you gift. We went on a small tour around Nutre Hogar to show off the projects we completed, Maruquel was so proud and appreciative. We said our last goodbyes and went back to our hotel. At the hotel we found out we had no running water for a bit, but we did bond together as a group. We had self reflection at 4:30 and squeezed in our nightly meeting before dinner today. At the nightly meeting we passed the torch to the next LDDs, Monica and Sachi. For dinner we had burgers, french fries, and coke to celebrate our American heritage during Fourth of July. After dinner we did the piñata that Dina and Bridgett surprised us with, everyone had a turn hitting. Then, we enjoyed candy and cake. Once that event was done we did our unity clap which we decided to select the phrase “home run”. As we write this blog post we are watching a movie for the last movie night of our trip.
Today we learned the importance of delegating tasks to people and guiding them as effective leaders. Through our CAP project, we learned how much we can achieve through teamwork and communication and also how crucial it is to be patient with others. We were inspired by previous LDDs who set a strong example for us on the previous CAP days when they were leaders, which helped us be more successful. We learned that when helping others it’s important to be sustainable which means it has to be feasible, there has to be a need, related to a personal passion, and you should engage with the community for feedback. This helps make sure that you give the community what they actually need.
Our time as leaders was quite fun, we learned a lot of new things about our peers throughout this period. Furthermore we enjoyed showing off our milk drinking talent to the entire group. Tomorrow the leaders will be Monica and Sachi for Fun Day!!! Thank you.

Wow, what a great job. I see there are a lot of talented artists among the group. To witness the beginning and finish of this project is amazing. Watching all the teamwork and positive vibes with the same goal in mind, was true testimony to all of your different personalities and strengths. Counting down the time till you all return home, with many stories to tell your families. Can’t wait to see you Monica, love dad.
