Hola!! Today was the first day of student leading, and we did great (if we do say so ourselves)!
We had a 7 am wake-up today and enjoyed a quick yoga session before heading to breakfast. Many students thoroughly enjoyed that. We did a mental warmup consisting of an overview of the agricultural aspect of DR, before heading to a field to get an idea of how the crops here are produced. We came back to the resort and had some free time before heading to a lunch consisting of Dominican rice, chicken, and mixed vegetables. We did another mental warmup after lunch where we played a heated game of 4 Corners Tag, before heading to a cucumber factory where we got to get a hands-on idea of what working there was like. We came back and had some more free time before heading to dinner, the lovely staff made fried chicken, rice, fries, and iced tea. Then we ended the day with some chill time until 10 pm lights out.
Hi friends! Its Ruth. My favorite part of today was cutting the cucumbers and then throwing them in the water. The ladies I was working with were super funny and we were talking about the differences and similarities between Puerto Ricans and Dominicans. However, sorting the cucumbers was not my cup of tea! It takes master cucumber knowledge – so shout out to the ladies who do that part! I’m so glad that I’m already accustomed to this kind of food because I’m really picky, but all of it is really good. Everyone here, the hotel staff, the GG leaders, and the Glimpsers themselves have been really understanding and nonjudgemental so I love it! That’s all she wrote guys. I LOVE YOU MOM! I LOVE YOU ABUELITA! I LOVE YOU BEBA YARY AMY GOLDO BLISSSSSS JADA WITH THE BETA muah muah bye.
HEYY IT’S JANAYA!! My favorite part of the day was definitely the cucumber factory. I helped cut the stems off and sorted them out into different packaging. I was a little lost at first, but I finally began to understand towards the end with the help of one of my fellow Glimpsers. I’m having lots of fun, the food is really good (it may even be better than when we came). I’m having a great time here, everyone is so nice and accepting. Miss you guys so much <333 LOVE YOU MOM, LOVE YOU DAD, LOVE YOU ALYSSA, LOVE YOU VON, LOVE YOU BABY TEY TEY, AND LOVE YOU ROWAN AND BENNY.
Kore here!! As much as I love New York, I don’t miss it at all. Being here has been so much fun so far and I’m incredibly sad to see the days go by so fast. Each day is filled with so many fun planned activities, but the things the Glimpsers and I do in our free time make all the early mornings and hikes up & down hills so worth it! I’ve been enjoying volleyball and uno with the gang, and after we finish this blog I think we’ll be playing sardines (reverse hide and seek)!! The architecture and general views in DR are gorgeous. Being from Trinidad, I can’t help but compare these two islands and notice the similarities. Most of the houses designed in the Caribbean prioritize functionality and survivability overlooks. The buildings here are very blocky with one basic window in each room, but I’m not saying this to bash anything – I think that’s charming. DR feels very rich in community and I like how simple the houses are; it leaves room for more personality on the inside! There’s so much greenery and flora and the SUNSETS + SUNRISES ARE TO DIE FOR. I know I’ll miss this once the program is over. I’ve met such fun people here!! And fun fact: the most used modes of transportation are motorcycles and mopeds. All in all, I love it here. (Hi Mother. I love you Mother. Bye Mother.)
