Hello Glimpser Families,
What a day! After breakfast, we headed to the Luis Gomez Greenhouse. The farm focuses on the growth of cucumbers, and tomatoes. We learned about the process of harvesting and each of us clipped the suckers of the tomato plants. The Greenhouse produces about 14,500 tomatoes every harvest with only 8 employees, all by hand. For the cucumbers, it is about 40,000lb for each crop. Bernardo, one of the employees, showed us how to take care of the plants and was super patient about explaining in detail all the steps.
Coming back with 3 cucumbers each, we enjoyed a nice lunch that involved a nice salad made with fresh donated cucumbers from the farm. It was delicious. After our lunch, we drove to World Agro Marketing. We learned about the steps before the exportation of cucumbers to the United States. The factory mostly focuses on Persian cucumbers. We had an opportunity to ask questions to the employees and participate in their work. Cristian, Tatiana, Ashley, Victoria, Felix, and Kaitlenn helped each group with the language barrier: excellent job!! Award for our “hard” work: a case of eggplants.
Then, we came back to the Hotel Dilenia and the students worked on the introduction of the CAP (Community Action Project). Everyone was very enthusiastic about it. Following all that brainstorming, a trip to the local bakery, or should I say cafe, Punto de Nieve. Each of us ordered a nice sweet treat and Tatiana was our translator for each order, what a nice job!!!!!
Dinner was also a nice surprise Dominican style of Carbonara and a fresh salad. We finished the day with the introduction of our leaders of the day for tomorrow: Ava P. and Xiaohan. Good night.

Good job Felix, with assisting with translations. Bien hecho! Proud of you. Did you donate your 3 cucumbers to the salad? I’m eager to hear more about the CAP. Hope you are getting lots of opportunities to chat with the regular DR people. Broaden your Spanish proficiency. Hope the withdrawal symptoms from the phone addiction are not too severe. Stay strong—you can do this.
Love you.

Sounds great! Thank you for including all of the names of the places that you are visiting. I can search them up and get a feeling for what you are doing. The baked treats at Punto de Nieve look super tasty. I’m a little jelly. Eat a baked good for me! We are trying to stay dry here in rainy Western Massachusetts. It was kind of smokey and hazy yesterday because of the residual effects from the forest fires in Canada. Best of luck to Leaders Ava P and Xiaohan! Thanks for making the photos on the previous post larger. It helps to see the beautiful smiling faces. If you could do that on this post that would be great! Have a great 4th day! Can’t wait to read the next installment.

Loving these updates. I can see it all in my mind. So glad Felix getting a chance to use his Spanish in “the real world”!! Felix– Oscar keeps asking where you are and whether the snacks there are delicious. Sounds like the answer to that is “Muy sabroso!!”

Glad everyone can now differentiate a persian cucumber from all the other varieties! Purchasing treats & sweets is an excellent way to practice Spanish- jajaja! Good luck to the 1st leaders-of-the-day and with getting the CAP project established. Sigue con los updates– me encanta leerlos! Haz lo todo!
