Day 4 – Aid and Development (No. 2)

Hello everyone!

Today we started off our day at 7:15 with a traditional Panamanian breakfast along with some pancakes and fresh fruit. Next, we had a mental warm-up to introduce us all to our CAP project on saving turtles. After our mental warm-up, we went on a 1.5-hour bus ride to a private trip to the beach to meet Scott, the head of the organization “Save the Turtles.” Scott introduced us to his organization and what motivated him to start it. We can all agree that we felt inspired by his story, in which an encounter with nature changed his life, showing us that it is never too late for one to discover their calling or connect with the environment. We then took the bus back to our stay in Las Tablas to have a late lunch of rice, lentils, salad, meat, and fish! After lunch, we had a CAP Seminar where we all split into two primary groups. One group of glimpsers created a design to build a barrier that will be used to protect the turtles while they nest from water and other threats, and the other group discussed how recycled buckets could be used to help hold structures together that will be placed on the beach to shield the turtles. Then we had some free time and our nightly meeting, which was shortly followed by a dinner which consisted of delicious sandwiches. All in all, with today’s theme being Aid and Development, we thought a lot about what it truly means to make a positive difference and the endless possibilities in which we can do so. This is something we will definitely continue to think about as we continue to embark on this journey, and even when we return back home.

Big Love,

-Mia and Kylie
