Day 5 Aid & Development

Today we started the day with breakfast, then moved on with our meeting that informs us about what we will be doing throughout the day. In our morning meeting, we learned about aid and development, more specifically the two types of aid, as well as the plans for the school we’d visit afterward. The two types are short-term aid and long-term aid; one example of short-term assistance is the disaster relief programs and funding aimed at creating solutions to shorter-term problems. Longer-term aid hopes to improve life to a permanent degree, such as a school meant for teaching deaf people.

Today we went to a school for deaf people. We learned about sign language and how to do it. Afterward, we came back and had lunch and then went to the CAP location (Community Action Program). Where we will begin building benches for the community. During this activity we just asked some questions and played games with some locals to get familiar with them and their needs.

Something that my peers and I were proud of was playing around with locals, For example when we played basketball with two kids, danced around, and played hide and seek with a kid.

Being the leader of the day entailed various tasks and responsibilities such as making sure everyone was feeling well, making sure everyone was present, and making sure everyone was fed during meal times. I learned so much about myself today, not only through the things we did but also how we interacted with each other and the other members of our delegation. For example, I realized that being a leader meant carrying a sense of confidence and building a form of trust between each and every member. Communication is an extremely important characteristic for a leader to have- especially when there are people who truly believe in you to fulfill your duties and be the best leader you can.

Thank you for describing the day so well and in detail. New language, new skills, and new people. Looks like a busy day full of new experiences. Can’t wait to see the benches. ?
Ps.
Please make the pictures bigger. They are teeny-tiny.

Echoing previous post from Cindy – any chance these photos can be re-posted in a larger size? Seem like amazing action shots but difficult to tell who is who. Thanks!
