Day 5: Community Day!! (No. 3)

Today was a very eye-opening day meeting the local elders at a community center/nursing home in the town of San Isidro.

We left the bus and began by participating in a Zumba class with them. We were all a little nervous at first, but eventually, everyone started to dance with no care to Salsa and many Latino dances.

After Zumba, we moved to a different room to introduce ourselves to our new friends, and even with the language barrier, we had a lot of fun.

We also had another dancing moment where everyone went down a line and each danced with one of the seniors.

After bonding with the elders in the community, we then found our way to Doña Lorena’s house where we all learned how to make tortillas from scratch. Some fellow neighbors of Doña Loerna joined us for some food and cas (a typical drink in Costa Rica with a fruit very similar to guava).

At the end of the day, we all came together as a community to build bonds and make an impact on the local community members’ lives. And they made an impact on ours too!

Stay tuned for Yolenis and Kai’s blog tomorrow!!!
