Hello Families,
Today, we started our day later than usual because we had a “free day”. The Leaders of the Day ( Ava M, Kaitlenn, and Serena) woke up at 9:00 am to get ready for the day by going over what we needed to do and to make sure breakfast was ready for the rest to start coming down. Many of the Glimpsers woke up between 9:30 am and 10:30 am to serve themselves breakfast. For breakfast today, we had different kinds of cereal, yogurt, and fruit. After, we were able to have alone time if we chose to or hang out with friends to do activities like making bracelets or simply just to talk. Many glimpsers were able to call back home during this time and do laundry as well. Next, lunch was served and we had white rice with sancocho (chicken and pork soup with vegetables). We then left the hotel and were finally able to go to stores and buy things we needed or wanted. Since it was a hot sunny day, we stopped to get ice cream. Then we walked to the park which was located inside of a military base. Some of us played basketball with local kids and adults while others were invited by the military to view their guaraguao (eagle or falcon we’re not sure but they were their national mascot.) Others were distracted observing two baby kittens they found in the park (they were so cuteee!!!) Then we walked to the supermarket where a lot of snacks were bought and a lot of money was spent. After this, most of the Glimpsers returned to the hotel while the four of us (Ava M, Kaitlenn, Jordan, Xiaohan) went with 2 leaders to a different supermarket nearby to spend more money. We went back to the hotel, and some made phone calls while others had free time before dinner. For dinner, we had mashed yuca and potato with cheese, fried cheese, and steamed veggies. Then we had the nightly meeting, as usual, in which we passed the leadership torches to Jadalys and Victoria. We were going to finish the night off with karaoke but it was sadly moved to another night because more people still needed time to call back home, so we are just gonna end the night by spending time talking to each other.

Sounds like a super sweet day. Great to see Nevin up and about after not feeling good. Are you guys eating enough? Sheesh. Just kidding. Hope that you had fun shopping and strolling around Constanza. Save some money for later big spenders! Great to get a phone call. Nevin you want to learn Spanish? Start now. There’s no time like the present. And what better place to start. Stay safe and be good citizens. Happy July 4th!

Please make the photos bigger. Thank you!

Dia Libre! Going to local grocery stores is always an adventure and often the best place to buy presents to take home! Looks like N is feeling better. Thanks for providing food details- sancocho yummmm (ava, kaitlenn, serena- gracias!) What kinds of things are discussed in nightly meetings? The guaraguao perhaps should be the GG mascot too?! These blog updates are the highlight of the day! Buen hecho!

Really love the blog. Hanging on every word! Free day– woohooo!

The ‘dia libre’ sounds like it was full of needed and meaningful activity (like laundering dirty socks). I’m especially intrigued by the sancocho! Yummy yummy. A park inside a military base also sounds interesting. We are all glad for the brief call home. Now that everyone is rested up, it’s time to get back to the real work of the trip???
Great reporting job!

Help! I need the “screaming toes” wake-up. The photos are great and the activities and meals are sure different from home, with enough “shopping” to help with any culture shock. Happy July 4th and everyday! Linda Brooks (Gram L of Felix)

Even though it was rest day it sounds like you all still got to experience cool, new things. Shopping in another country is always interesting and fun. The ice cream looks delicious!!!! Nice pictures too.
