Heyyyy everybody!! It’s Briza and Leslye, the leaders of the day for Day 5: Working Like a Local. We started off the day by waking up bright and early at 5:15 am some of us waking up super grumpy like Eric ☹ (kidding…NOT). We had breakfast at 6:00am in which we ate carimañolas, tortillas de maiz, empanadas, salchicha guisada, pancakes, harsh browns, and bistec. After,at 7:00am, we headed to Finca El Espinal, a goat farm where we engaged in activities from the owner Hugo whose farm has been running for 20 successful years selling helados, cheese, milk, and yogurt produced by goat milk yummm. Our students began by feeding, petting, and carrying the month-old baby goats. After we had the opportunity to milk the mama goat. Finally, we were able to plant branches with leaves that are used to feed the goats. Some of us even bought ice cream made out of goat milk with delicious flavors including mango, coconut, vanilla, chocolate, coffee to name a few. We thanked Hugo for having us and providing us an unforgettable experience on how it felt to work like a local and be proud of our end product. We headed back to our hotel and had time to bond with our peers engaging in games like uno, California speed, and telephone, and we had a 2nd opportunity to call family. And enjoying lunch which included chicken, pork chops, salad, and strawberry juice. After filling our stomachs, we went on a Zoom call with our partner, Scott, in which we instructed our ideas on our 3 projects of creating a butterfly garden, reinforcing the turtle nursery, and creating a more stable turtle nest. As if we didn’t have enough free time our students engaged in more self-directed activities and had dinner at 7:30am. We consumed tostones, pollo con vegetales, ensalada, and pineapple juice. Last but not least, we directed the nightly meeting passing the torch to tomorrow’s lideres del dia.
We did an excellent job if I do say so myself. Miss you familia peluche, give my Caleb, Ally, Leo, Mom and Dad a huge bear hug from me☹ – Briza
What Briza said we did good today and got compliments of being leaders del dia. Los extraño mucho!!! – Leslye
