Day 6: Aid and Development (No. 2)

Today was a special day. We had a lot of downtime which was very much appreciated from a long day yesterday. But, what made this day so special was Mitzi´s birthday! We celebrated early in the morning with a surprise for Mitzi, wishing her a happy birthday. After that, we went ahead and had a nutritious breakfast prepared by Diego and Emelia (our cooks). Fortunately, we finished early and had some down time before our mental warm up. During our mental warm up Anthony and I explained and gave our insights on what the question and quote of the day meant to us. After our mental warm up we had our CAP Seminar and we again, had some more down time, since we finished early. After a little while and some fun in the pool, we had lunch. Then we had even more down time and after that we had a guest speaker (Rodrygo), who taught us about how we can change the environment around us and how it requires and handful of people to work as a unit and doesnt require individual skills. After that we had our second calls home which went well for many students. At around 6:00 we went down to dinner. At 7:00 was our nightly meeting where we¨¨passed the torch¨¨ to the new leaders of the day.

Questions of the day: ”What are positive and negative impacts of aid on less affluent countries”

Quote of the day: ” True development must be in harmony with needs of the people and the rhythyms of the natural world”

Anthony: The question of the day means to me as if other countries were giving to a small countries but the negative being the small countries not being able to give back. For the quote of the day it means if you wish for a stable progress you need to development from your heart and not your mind.

Christopher: The significance that the quote had on me was that I believe that in order for things to change something else also has to change. For example, if I wanted to change something about myself I´d have to give up something about myself in order for that to happen. You cant have two things at the sametime because unfortunatley that is just simply not how life works. There must be balance. As for the question, a positive would be being grateful for the minimalistic things that were so accustomed to or taken for granted. The negatives would be not being able to give a less affluent country the necessities they lack.
