Hey, everyone!
Today we started the morning with a breakfast of pancakes with eggs and fruit. It was good of course. Later, we started a mental warm-up with Akeyla and me. All students formed a line, and we asked them to line up by age or by alphabetical order, the rule was no talking – you could only use your hands to communicate. Next, we went to La Rancho, where we talked about the norms we made and agreed to follow them. For instance, having patience towards others, and communicating with different people respectfully. We also played mingle mingle, a way to communicate and get to know each other better. For our final teambuilder, we broke up into two groups (Team A-Team and Team Water Monkeys) where each group had to put water into the opponent’s bucket while defending their own bucket. Team A-Team was the winner!
Today we had a guest speaker (Mr. Rodrigo) speak to us about aid and development in Costa Rica. He explained to us the different types of aid that we may provide, as well as taught us about the history of the town that we’re in and the needs of the town. For our community action project, we will be painting a local elementary school that is in need of repairs and Mr. Rodrigo explained to us how important it is to the students to receive the support. We also learned about the 17 sustainable development goals and made the connection of these goals to our community action project lastly, we finished with a game of hot potato where we explored possible solutions to the sustainable development goals it was very insightful.
During the afternoon (4 pm – 6 pm), we got to have our 2nd phone call to our parents! Everyone was very excited, and we all enjoyed calling home, I hope everyone who is outside of Costa Rica is safe and well.
We finished the day with the nightly meeting where we talked about our roses and thorns of the day, and everyone laughed. Then we talked about the community meeting that we had and how we all came together and got along with each other and settled our differences.
We are very excited about our waterfall day tomorrow, come back to learn all about it!
