Day 7: Community Action Project Day 1

Hola friends and family,

This is Nick and Michael we were the Leaders of the Day for today, the 13th of June, and day 7 of the Panama trip. Today we woke up before the sun or the roosters at 4:30 am. We then got breakfast to go and jumped on the road to the worksite. We arrived around 8:30 am and quickly got to work doing ecosystem restoration: planting native trees. Surprisingly it is on a mountain. We encountered a lot of cool bugs and while there there were some ups and downs, quite literally in some instances, it was nothing we couldn’t handle! The terrain was unique due to the many years of cattle grazing and moving around the mountain which presented challenges when traversing the terrain (we aren’t cows). Even though we faced many difficulties, we were able to plant around 600 trees today! After these experiences, I am confident that we will do even more good work tomorrow. Afterward, we shared a traditional meal with the other people working with us. It was a wonderful experience being able to connect with Pro Eco Azuera and connecting with nature through the work.

P.S. Payton really enjoyed this experience stating that this was “the best day of my life” and of course, we agree.

Adios,

Nick and Michael

Wow, planting 600 trees is awesome! You Glimpsers are so impressive! Hopefully you will all be able to return to Panama many years in the future and see the impact your hard work has had on the land and the animals and people who rely in it.

This is a a great write up, Nick & Michael! I love the pictures and how verdant and green the countryside is. 600 trees in a day seems like a lot so I’m sure the meals and rest at the accommodation at night were well deserved.
Sounds like Peyton might want to think about a career in reforestation or environmental science?
