Day 7: Community / Working Like a Local

Hey, everyone! Its Keilyn and Kai to tell you all about Day 7!!!

Starting off from last night, for our talent, we danced bachata, then Cynthy and Jennifer passed the torch to us to crown us as the new líders del día! As you can see, some of our hard-working glimpsers were up late working on the finishing touches of the CAP presentations to end the night. ?

We woke up at 7:00 am (6:00 am for us?), then headed down to Isabel’s for an amazing breakfast which included chicken nuggets, grapes, crackers, and tea/coffee. Then around 9:00 am we went on to the Mercado de San Alfonso and spent time with the children whose parents work within the community and then we helped shell the crops they were selling in the market. For example, some helped shell peas while some also helped peel corn. There was actually a competition between Kai, Brandon, Madison, and Sekou on who shelled the most peas ? (Kai won btw). Throughout the day, we felt like superstars. We had a camera crew from the US office for Global Glimpse follow us throughout our experience at Mercado de San Alfonso.

At around 12:00 pm, we walked back to Isabel’s for another delicious lunch, which included pasta salad, chicken breasts, yellow rice, lentils, and pineapple juice. After lunch, we walked back to the hotel and prepared our CAP Presentations for the representatives of Despertar de Los Ángeles. At around 2:00 pm, we presented our projects and answered any questions that the representatives had. Then, sadly we had to say goodbye to our amazing and talented camera crew. Then there was a leadership meeting for our next new amazing leaders. Which during this time many got to call home and talk to family and loved ones. Next, we started the first drafts of our appreciation letters to all of our wonderful donors who supported this trip.

At 6:00 pm, we walked back to Isabel’s for, once again, another wonderful meal, which included fried fish, salad, baked plantains, chicken soup, baked desserts, and ginger tea with lemon. After we finished our meals, we said thank you to Isabel and headed back to the hotel. Then we arrived back at the hotel and had our nightly meeting at 8:00 pm where we passed the torch to our newly crowned líders del día, Vanessa and Remi! We are all very excited to start our Community Action Project tomorrow and we can’t wait for you all to see the results.

P.S. we all see your amazing and touching comments. We miss and love you all very much. Thank you for supporting us during this adventurous trip in Ecuador. (Please continue to leave comments).

Hi Son (Izaiah), its mom. I miss you so much. I’m loving the pictures of you and the other glimpsers. It gives me something to look forward to every night. Knowing that even though I can’t speak to you daily, I can still see your progress throughout that day. I’m super proud of you and love you so much. It felt really good speaking to you to today. You sounded so full of life and happy. I love that for you. Can’t wait for you to get back so we can talk about all the new things you got into there. In the meantime, keep making beautiful memories. Love Mom.
