DÍA 12 – FINAL CAP DAY

Hello family and friends!

I hope you all are having a good day! This is Isabella and Brannagh clocking in for the final day of the Community Action Project!

In the morning, we woke up everyone early with the old-fashioned way of loud knocking and yelling at the doors for everyone to “WAKE UP.”

When we arrived at the school, it was the final day of the CAP project. First things first, we started off with a couple of stretches to get ready for the work we would put in. Starting off, there were two groups, the people put on digging duty and the ones put on painting duty. Both of the groups painted and we finished off by using mint green paint to cover that primer we used in the beginning! Along with that, we also fully dug out the rocks and weeds on the sidelines of the buildings to make way for a vegetable garden.

During our breaks, we played soccer and volleyball with the children at the school. They were all really friendly and were the ones to approach us first! After our hard work, we had lunch at the school, it consisted of rice, beans, salad, and meatballs! Yum!

We then continued our hard work of painting and digging, as we neared the end of our project, the principal of the school of Santa Rosa, Ms. Sandra, gathered us all and thanked us appreciatively. We also showed her the drawings of hopscotch styles to put on the green floor we painted previously.

Principal Ms. Sandra and Efrain, a community member who owns a local bread shop who helped us out a ton with the project!

Efrain sharing some last words of appreciation with us <3 – thank you to Dani for translating!

Group photo with our final project! We painted walls, the floor, fences, and poles!

As we headed out and walked back to the base house, we visited some of the families we met previously to say our final goodbyes… It was quite emotional but it was a very needed thing for us to say our goodbyes. When walking back to the base house, we finally got to see a clear view of the Turrialba Volcano!

When we finally got to the base house some people entered the pool and others rested until dinner. Sometime after dinner was the nightly meeting. This is where we passed the torch to James and Elvis! We’ll see what they bring us tomorrow, we’re sure they’ll do an awesome job! Best of luck to them!

As we speak, there is a campfire with the whole group going on. The smell of burnt wood is passing through the house as we type. Tomorrow will be a long day, but we are one day closer to seeing our families!

Signing off,

Brannagh & Isabella

BRANNAGH AND ISABELLA!! Thank you for your awesome blog post! I know you two were great leaders. I can’t wait to see pictures of the Santa Rosa school in all its glory.
I hope you two were able to join your new BFFs for the campfire, and Brannagh, I hope you were able to lead everyone in a rousing rendition of your grandfather’s original campfire song “My Pants Are On Fi-yah!”
San Francisco is aching to have you home Bean, and we can’t wait to see you. Lots go love from the Yay-Area!
