Howdy Partner!
This morning, Bridget and I (Emily) woke everyone up with Puff the Magic Dragon and the fantastic Camp Rock soundtrack at 6:30 am. After a long night of rain, there were tons of rain ants and small little bugs all over the breakfast tables, dishes, and chairs. We started off by cleaning up all the bugs from the furniture and washing the dishes. For breakfast, we all sat somewhere different with seats assigned by yours truly! For breakfast, we had french toast, eggs with green onions, and an assortment of fruits – papaya, pineapple, and watermelon. You can’t forget the juices! We had passion fruit and blackberry today!
The rain cleared up later in the morning so we were able to go on a hike. Some of us stayed back to play spoons, nap, and hang out in the pool with an intense game of monkey in the middle. It was steep! We hiked up the mountain by the base house until we were able to witness a beautiful view overlooking all of Santa Rosa. The hike was beautiful with a little sprinkle of rain and so much fog, it felt like we were walking through clouds. It was a little slippery on the way down but we had no clear wipeouts! Once we got back, some of us took a dip in the pool to cool off as we got ready for lunch. Our lovely cooks Emilia and Diego prepared chicken rice, mashed beans, and salad.
After lunch, we all fell into food comas. We saw some newfound nap spots including the bench outside, couches, rocking chairs, and random beds. There was a very intense game of Monopoly deal happening downstairs with simultaneous pool games upstairs. We changed into our formal wear a little later for our guest speaker, Karla Gomez, from La Florita (cheese farm). She gave us an enlightening presentation about conservation, Costa Rican history, and the importance of protecting our environment. Karla made Cajeta, a sweet candy made of sugar and milk. She also introduced us to a fun game called “Jirafa, Elefante, y Araña.” It involved three people trying to create these animals when chosen. Of course, Emily won and Bridget got kicked out in the first round, thinking it was a practice round (L).
A little while later, Emilia, one of our wonderful cooks, came back early to teach us Merengue, Salsa, and Cumbia! It was a little bit of a challenge but super fun. The hip movements were new and difficult, but we all tried our best and enjoyed dancing around together! Next was dinner! A little taste of home, we had burgers. The sweet ketchup added some dimension to the burgers. It reminded us Californians of In-n-Out which unfortunately none of our Bostonians have tried. On average, three burgers were consumed per student, however, some may say that a certain someone consumed five burgers and got upset when their sixth was stolen. We’ll leave it up to you to gauge the accuracy of this legend. Make sure to ask your student how many burgers they ate on this fine day.
At our nightly meeting, we reflected on our day and got ready to pass the torch. We learned that we get to do laundry tomorrow! We passed the torch to Lizzy and Ana after they proved the worthiness of Daniel’s sombrero (torch) with their beautiful, never seen drawings.
We’re getting ready for karaoke and were wondering what your go-to karaoke song was… Ours would have to be a 2010 throwback or anything by Tswizzle of course.
Hasta la próxima seguidores!

What a super fun day!! I’m guessing Brannagh wasn’t the consumer of 6 burgers, but she is always surprising and delighting us, so who knows ? Maybe she did woof them down.
I love that you guys got to learn some dancing, and I hope you can teach us a few moves when you’re home. Brannagh can tell you that I (mom) have SEVERAL go to karaoke songs, but for the sake of brevity, I’ll go with “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Mis. Glad you are all having a great time. Lots of love from San Francisco, can’t wait to hear what you get up to tomorrow ?

Sounds like a fun day of hiking and games. I’m going to get some In-n-Out as you made me hungry for burgers. Miss you Emily!

Looks like you are learning so much about Costa Rica and the impact for change you each bring to everything while you are becoming friends with each other! The picture from the hike in the clouds looks amazing. We are watching every night for news from you, and loving all the pictures and stories!
