Hello everyone! It´s Gabriel and Martin. For breakfast today, we had some very delicious french toast with some fruit to start off our informative day. For our mental warm-up, we discussed ecotourism and how it negatively impacts the environment in Costa Rica. We then transitioned into our CAP Seminar where we watched a Tedtalk video and a short Youtube video where natives of Costa Rica, specifically ones close to the Osa Peninsula, expressed their discouragement for the luxury hotels being built on their land by first-world countries.
For lunch, we had some delicious potatoes, pork chops, steak for those who can´t eat pork, some vegetables, and some delicious juice. After lunch, some of us Glimpsers decided to get in the pool and they all expressed how much fun they had. At around 2:00, we were greeted by a Turrialba native by the name of Andres Zuniga. Andres holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Management and Ecotourism and he came to give us more information about how ecotourism negatively impacts Costa Rica from his perspective as a native of Turrialba who cares deeply about environmental justice. We learned lots of information from Andres and he even made us compete in teams against each other to practice environmental justice. Thankfully, the community won in our debate. Afterward, we had a little downtime where people got in the pool again or did whatever they wanted to. For dinner, we had some very delicious nachos and some juice to come with it. Then, we had our daily nightly meeting where we discussed the quote and question of the day. Gabriel even decided to show off his talent which was the moonwalk. We talked about how our days went and for the most part, everyone had a great day which is amazing for all of us. We passed on the torch to the LDD´s for tomorrow and that was the end of it. Tomorrow we will begin our 3-day Community Action Project at Santa Rosa School.
