Exploring Cartago Town!!

Today was History and Culture Day. The morning heavy rain turned cloudy, later clearing for bright sunny skies. It was the perfect day for our very first field trip to Cartago Town, the first capital of Costa Rica. During our guided tour we visited the Virgin of the Angel’s Church, the Ruins of Santiago Apostle, and the Central Market. At the Central Market students learned how to bargain shop like a local and shared fresh bananas. Later on, we had a buffet lunch at Cocina del Santuario Kitchen. Afterward, glimpsers bought souvenirs at a gift shop nearby for their loved ones back home. Glimpsers ended the afternoon bonding through some team-building games. Things got a little competitive, but it was good fun! Jean won the ultimate grand prize, a stick of my famous beef jerky ?

During the nightly meeting, the torch was passed to our brave first student volunteer leaders of the day, Shania and Gabriela. Each leader had to perform a talent to earn the leadership torch. Gabriela showed off her balance with a floor handstand and Shania played us a tune on guitar. We ended the night watching Colombia and Argentina play soccer in The Cupo America projected in the living room. One highlight was we got to meet Memo’s adorable doggy Boni. It’s been a day to remember for sure!
