Final CAP Day (No. 2)

Today was our final CAP day! After an early wake-up call, we headed to the community to finish up our Community Action Project. The previous blog detailed our previous work. Unlike yesterday when we were digging space for the pipes, which was a tedious task, today we were laying down the pipes, assembling them, and covering them back up with dirt. Although this may sound like a simple feat, it was exhausting. While it was exhausting, it was also rewarding to see the people of the community come together with us. They were helping us, and we even made some new friends. For example, Aymen ended up having 3 kids cling to him by the end of the project. On both days, a local lady offered us piping hot black coffee, which was definitely needed.  After we finished, the community came together to test out their new water system! Their responses were absolutely heartwarming; the water worked and our project was a success. The joy was radiating off of them in huge waves; they were extremely grateful for our hard work and support, as this had been over a 10-year process. It’s important to note we finished our leftover work in less than 4 hours today, so it was time for lunch right after. A nice local man cut mangos out of his tree for all of us who worked ? After returning from the community, we all enjoyed a couple of hours in the pool. (Marysabela fell so many times). After our free time, we headed into town where we visited a local ice cream parlor where Shula, Hinisha, and Deide enjoyed cookies and cream ice cream; KJ got coffee ice cream (he’s developed a coffee addiction :/); Marysabela got bubble-gum ice cream and a churro filled with chocolate; Jamyriah and Rosie got chocolate caramel ice cream. We then stopped at a grocery store to get snacks that we have so badly been craving. Jasmine, Kyla, and Brendalys (that’s us) FINALLY got our Gatorades! Across the street from the grocery store, we saw a basketball court and KJ begged for us to play BBall. Julia, Brendalys, Jamyriah, Hinisha, Rosie, KJ, and a local teamed up to play against other locals. We won obviously, and KJ was getting recruited. We headed back to our villa and had one of our final dinners together :(. Our quote for the day was by Martin Luther King Jr. where he stated “Life’s most persistent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” This trip has taught us a lot about doing for others and it was a great final work day for everyone in our delegation. We were all beyond happy to see the actual impact we made for such a deserving community. With this being said, we can’t wait to see our families again soon. PEACE OUT!!
